Men's Lacrosse Closes 2013 Season With 20-13 Win At Catawba

Trailing 4-2 after the first quarter, the Belmont Abbey men's lacrosse team exploded for ten goals in the second period and never looked back as the Crusaders ended the 2013 season with a 20-13 win at Catawba this evening. The win caps the Abbey's finest single season win total in the eight year history of the program with a mark of 11-5, while Catawba falls to 9-8.

The Crusaders were outshot 15-7 in the first quarter as they started the second period down 4-2, but the Abbey unleashed a torrent of goals in the second period, netting 10 goals on 15 shots to take a 12-7 lead at the half.

The outburst carried over to the third period as the Crusaders found the back of the net five times on ten shots to carry a 17-8 lead into the final stanza.

Six different Crusaders scored goals, as Daniel Marshall's six on eight shots led all players. Scotty Steele added five, Connor Sellars had four, while senior Dan Morrissey totaled three in his final collegiate game. Classmate Josiah Nash added one in his final game, and Corey Cooke netted another.

Sellars finished with two assists, while Steele, Morrissey, Tanner Scharr and Joey McGinley all had one.

Defensively, Kevin Costa led all players with four caused turnovers. Senior Connor Doyle caused two turnovers and scooped up three ground balls. Jon Wolcott led all players with eight ground balls and won 16 of 26 face offs. Brett Lawless stopped 16 shots.
