Ten different Crusaders scored goals, led by freshman Daniel
Marshall's five, as the Belmont Abbey men's lacrosse team earned a
key 18-7 win at Lees-McRae this afternoon. The triumph extends the
Abbey's record to 8-4 overall and 2-3 in Conference Carolinas,
while the Bobcats remain winless at 0-14 overall and 0-5 in
Conference Carolinas.
Marshall led ten Crusaders with five goals on eight shots.
Connor Sellars, Joey McGinley and Vin Loscalzo all had two, while
Dan Morrissey, Tanner Scharr, Brendan Rogers, Josiah Nash, Corey
Cooke and Scott Balzano each had one.
Morrissey, Scharr and Ryan Corrigan each posted three
assists, while Sellars and Devin Cruz both had one.
After the Bobcats tied the game at one, the Abbey ripped off 12
unanswered goals to move ahead 13-1. Lees-McRae answered by scoring
five of the next six goals, but the Crusaders closed by scoring
three of the last five to seal the win.
Belmont Abbey outshot the Bobcats 56-23 and won the battles in
ground balls (39-30), face off wins (17-27) and extra man goals
(2-4).
The Crusaders caused 19 turnovers as Nash led the way with
three. Balzano, Loscalzo and Connor Doyle each had two. Brett
Lawless stopped nine shots in the first three quarters. Andrew
Shortt played the final quarter and made a pair of saves.
