Men's Lacrosse Forces Overtime After Wild Fourth Quarter, But Florida Tech Wins 12-11 In Extra Session

Florida Tech's Andrew Conley scored the game-winning goal 2:09 into the first overtime as the Panthers earned a 12-11 win over the Belmont Abbey Crusaders in men's lacrosse action this evening in Melbourne, Florida. Florida Tech improves to 4-2, while the Crusaders suffer their first loss as they drop to 4-1.

Belmont Abbey trailed 8-6 heading into the fourth quarter, but the Crusaders forced an extra period as they outscored FIT 5-3 in a wild fourth quarter. Joey McGinley opened the scoring in the fourth with a goal, but Florida Tech countered with two unanswered to move ahead 10-7. After a man-up goal by Dan Morrisssey at the 4:40 mark, Florida Tech's Mike Marschner netted a goal just 19 seconds later to put the Panthers ahead 11-8 with 3:39 to go.

The Crusaders did not go away quietly, as they tied the game at 11 to force overtime by scoring three goals in a span of 1:11. Tanner Scharr cut the deficit to 11-9 with exactly three minutes left. 32 seconds later, Morrissey struck again for the fourth and final time, taking a pass from McGinley and netting the goal. Connor Sellars capped the rally with his second and final goal of the night, coming at the 1:49 mark, to deadlock the game at 11 and force a four minute, sudden death overtime.

1:49 into the first extra period, Conley scored an unassisted goal, his fifth of the night, to give Florida Tech the victory.

Morrissey led the Abbey with four goals, while Sellars, McGinley and Scharr added two each. Scotty Steele scored once and had two assists.
