Belmont Abbey attackmen Daniel Marshall and Connor Sellars both scored three goals to lead the Crusaders men's lacrosse team past Coker, 12-9 this evening at Byerly Park. The win improves the Abbey's record to 6-1 overall and 1-0 in Conference Carolinas, while Coker drops to 1-7 overall and 0-3 in league play.

Along with Sellars and Marshall, Tanner Scharr and Caleb Holt both scored twice, while Vin Loscalzo and Brendan Rogers both had one each. Scharr handed out a pair of assists, while Holt, Loscalzo, Sellars and Connor Doyle all had one.

After Coker opened the scoring in the fourth with a goal to slice the Abbey's lead to 8-6, the Crusaders put the game away with three unanswered tallies, as Rogers and Sellars both netted goals and Holt added a man-up strike off of a feed from Sellars to move the Crusaders lead to 11-6. Coker scored three of the game's last four goals, but the Abbey's lead was too great, thanks to a run of three unanswered to close the third quarter, to move to 6-1.

Sean Kenny won 13 of 25 face offs and Doyle led all players with nine ground balls to go along with five caused turnovers. Josiah Nash was credited with three caused turnovers.

Freshman Patrick Butler, in his first career game in the cage, stopped seven shots, while Andrew Shortt, who manned the goal in the final 1:58, did not make a save.
