Men's Lacrosse Moves To 3-0 With 13-8 Win Over Wingate

Belmont Abbey freshman Connor Sellars scored four goals, two coming in the fourth quarter, and Scotty Steele added three more as the Crusaders men's lacrosse team ran its record to 3-0 with a decisive 13-8 win over the visiting Wingate Bulldogs this afternoon. Wingate drops to 1-2.

Leading 9-7 heading into the fourth, the Abbey outscored Wingate 4-1 in the final 15 minutes as Sellars scored twice, while Dan Morrissey and Daniel Marshall netted the other two. Sellars also totaled a pair of assists in the contest.

Wingate jumped out to a 3-1 lead after one, but the Abbey exploded ahead in the second period, outscoring the Bulldogs 6-2, punctuated by a Steele goal at the buzzer to send the Crusaders into the half leading 7-5.

Both teams scored four times in the third, but the Abbey pulled away in the fourth to move to 3-0 for the first time in school history.

Belmont Abbey outshot Wingate 40-29 and won the ground ball battle 35-28. Sellars scored four goals on eight shots, while Steele and Marshall both added three. Tanner Scharr, Joey McGinley and Morrissey all had one each.

Defensively, Sellars's six ground balls led the way, while Connor Doyle's five caused turnovers led all players. Josiah Nash had a pair. Brett Lawless stopped eight shots.
