The Belmont Abbey women's tennis team claimed victories in five
singles matches and posted two doubles wins as the Crusaders moved
into the thick of the Conference Carolinas Tournament race with a
7-2 win at Lees-McRae this afternoon. The Abbey improves to 4-10
overall and 3-6 in Conference Carolinas, while the Bobcats, which
only have four players, drop to 1-13 overall and 1-10 in Conference
Carolinas.
The win moves the Crusaders into the hunt for one of the eight
spots in the Conference Carolinas Tournament. With two matches to
go, tomorrow at home against Coker and Monday at Barton, the Abbey
is now in eighth place in the league standings.
In singles, Kirstie Jenkins posted an easy 6-1, 6-0 victory at
number one. Paige French earned a point for the Crusaders at number
three, taking a 6-2, 6-2 victory. Shannon Ramsey posted a 6-2, 6-2
win at number four. Lees-McRae forfeited at numbers five and six as
well as at number three doubles.
Jenkins and Katharine Miller earned a workmanlike 9-8 win at
number one doubles. The Bobcats claimed an 8-6 win at number
two.
