Box Score The Belmont Abbey men's lacrosse team fell at Queens by a 13-3
score this afternoon at the Queens Sports Complex. The Royals
improve to 8-5 overall and 3-2 in Conference Carolinas, while the
Abbey slips to 5-8 overall and 2-3 in Conference Carolinas.
Queens led 5-0 at the half, outshooting the Crusaders 20-13. The
Abbey did outshoot Queens 10-7 in the second period but could not
find the back of the net. Scotty Steele gave the Crusaders their
first goal at the 10:46 mark of the third period, but Queens
responded with three unanswered tallies to move its lead to
9-1.
Dan Morrissey opened the fourth quarter with a goal just 12
seconds in, but the Royals responded with four unanswered tallies
to move the lead to 13-2. Ryan Corrigan scored the final goal of
the contest at the 2:25 mark. All three Abbey goals were
unassisted.
Defensively Brendan Shoults led the Abbey with a pair of caused
turnovers. Jon Wolcott and Connor Doyle both had one each. Wolcott
led the Crusaders with three ground balls. Brett Lawless made five
saves in three quarters before giving way to Merrick Reiland, who
stopped two shots in the final quarter.
