Women's Tennis Edged By Catawba 6-3 In Rain-Shortened Match

The Belmont Abbey women's tennis team fell to Catawba College this afternoon 6-3 at Sacred Heart Courts. The Lady Crusaders took victories in a doubles match and two singles matches, however, answered back with a pair of doubles and four single wins.

Kirstie Jenkins and Katharine Miller posted an 8-2 win over Sloan Kessler and Maggie McKee at number one doubles. Paige French and Shannon Ramsey fell short to Ally Prior and Steffi Cook 8-3 in a tough matchup at number two, and Brook Ingram and Molly Gwaltney fell in an 8-4 decision to Candace Hall and Olivia Myers.

In singles, Jenkins gave the Crusaders a point with an easy 6-0, 6-0 win over Sloan Kessler. Miller fell to Prior 7-5, 6-3 at number two. Ingram faced off against Maggie McKee but fell short of a win 6-0, 6-1. Shannon Ramsey battles for a tough victory over Candace Hall with 6-1 first set win but then fell 2-6 in the second only to take the third set 10-4 and post a win. French fell 6-2 and 6-0 against Cook and Bridget Franer was dropped by Myers 6-0, 3-0 when the match was called off due to rain.

Women's Tennis will hit the courts again April 3 at 4:00pm against USC Lancaster for another home match up.
