The Belmont Abbey men's basketball team erased a 41-39 halftime
deficit by outscoring Limestone 64-50 in the final 20 minutes,
shooting 70 percent from the floor, as the Crusaders snapped a
four-game losing skid with a 103-91 win over the visiting Limestone
Saints this evening at the Wheeler Center. The win moves the
Abbey's record to 15-11 overall and 9-7 in Conference Carolinas,
while Limestone drops to 12-16 overall and 5-11 in Conference
Carolinas.
Belmont Abbey trailed for most of the first half but carried
momentum into the second half as senior Matthew Graves hit a
buzzer-beating three-pointer-the first of his career-cut the Abbey
deficit to just two at 41-39. In the second half, the Crusaders
dominated from the start, bolting out to a 62-50 lead with just
under seven minutes gone by. The Crusaders moved their lead to 18
and after a three-pointer closed the lead back to 15, Tyshawn Good,
who scored 20 of his 23 points in the second half, buried a
three-pointer to extend the lead back to 18. Limestone cut the lead
to as few as 12 points, but a three-pointer by Jakub Exner with 42
seconds left, one of four seniors honored prior to the game,
extended the lead back to 15 and provided the biggest roar of the
night in the Wheeler Center. A traditional three-point play for
Limestone closed the scoring.
