Box Score The Belmont Abbey men's lacrosse team trailed 5-1 after the
first quarter, but the Crusaders dominated the second quarter,
scoring six unanswered goals as it pulled away and gave Chris
Barrett his first win as a head coach with a season opening 11-8
win at Lenoir-Rhyne this afternoon.
Belmont Abbey was led by Ryan Corrigan's three goals while
Scotty Steele added two assists to lead the Crusaders to the
win. Lenoir-Rhyne scored the match's first two goals
within 34 seconds of each other for a 2-0 advantage.
L-R opened up a 5-1 lead at the end of the first period with
sophomore Gus Ratcliff and Sam Ashton scoring in the first
stanza's final minute.
Belmont Abbey, however, recovered and scored five unanswered
goals in the second period for a 6-5 lead entering halftime.
Brendan Rogers scored twice in the frame for the Crusaders.
After Ashton scored his third and final goal to give the Bears
an 8-7 lead just 38 seconds into the fourth period, Belmont Abbey
took control by scoring the match's final four
goals.
Belmont Abbey held a 32-27 advantage in shots taken while
Lenoir-Rhyne had a 34-27 edge in ground balls.
