Box Score Belmont Abbey freshman Cassidy Coutinho scored her team leading
seventh goal of the year, heading home the only goal of the
match in the 52nd minute as the Crusaders women's soccer team
earned a 1-0 win at Queens this evening. The win allows the Abbey
to clinch the second seed in next week's Conference Carolinas
Tournament as it moves to 9-8-0 overall and 8-2-0 in Conference
Carolinas, while Queens drops to 8-8-1 overall and 6-3-1 in
Conference Carolinas.
The first half was scoreless as the Crusaders enjoyed a 6-2
advantage in shots and both teams attempted one corner kick, but
early in the second half Coutihno scored the only goal of the match
at the 51:37 mark as she beat Kelsey Seretis with a header off of a
deflected shot by Alana Ryczek. The marker is Coutinho's seventh,
and her second game winner of the year. The assist is the sixth of
the season for Ryczek.
Belmont Abbey held Queens to just two shots in the second half
while attempting six to post a 12-5 edge for the match. The
Crusaders finished with three corner kicks to just one for the
Royals. Seretis was credited with six saves, while Hannah Kohls
stopped two shots as she posted her sixth shutout.
