Belmont Abbey junior guard Terrone Sheffey led all scorers with
a career-high 28 points but the Abbey fell 109-98 at Pfeiffer this
evening. Pfeiffer moves to 10-9 overall and 4-5 in Conference
Carolinas, while the Abbey drops to 12-7, 6-3 in Conference
Carolinas.
Tyshawn Good added 20 points, while Jay Council added 13, and
Kyle Phillips and Darryl Durham both posted 11. Phillips moved into
20th place on the school's all-time scoring list, passing Danny
Doyle.
Pfeiffer started on a 6-2 run to take an early lead, but the
Crusaders responded with a 12-2 spurt of their own to take a 14-8
advantage with 14:26 left in the half. The Falcons regained the
lead at 19-18 with 12:04 left in the half as a result of an 11-4
flurry. The score was tied three times in the next four minutes
before a Desmond Thomas three pointer gave Pfeiffer a 28-25 lead
with 7:42 to go. Pfeiffer outscored the Abbey 14-10 over the next
five minutes to take their largest lead of the half at 42-35 with
2:39 remaining in the first half. The Crusaders finished the stanza
on a 12-6 run, capped by a Good three pointer with four seconds
left, to cut the deficit to 48-47 at the half. Good scored eight
of his ten first half points in the final 1:36, including two
three-pointers in the final 36 seconds.
The Falcons began the second half on a 9-2 run to take 57-49
lead. The Crusaders answered with a 20-12 surge to tie the game at
69 with 9:54 to play. Pfeiffer responded with a 15-0 run to take
the largest lead of the game at 84-69 with 3:44 left in the
contest. The Abbey rallied with a 21-11 flurry to cut the lead to
four at 94-90 with 1:28 left in the game. Pfeiffer converted on 15
of 18 free throws to close out the contest and clinch the 109-98
victory.
Sheffey, who finished with 16 points in the first half, sank his
first six shots of the game. He also had five assists. Good
finished with five rebounds and four assists. Matthew Graves scored
eight points to go along with a team high eight rebounds.
Reggie Hollinger pitched in 27 points to lead four Falcons who
scored at least twenty. Danny Smith had 26 points along with eight
assists. KC Anuna tallied 22 points, while Elijah Matthews
accumulated 20 points.
