Men's Basketball Defeats North Greenville 82-71 Behind Good's 29 Points

The Belmont Abbey men's basketball team used a 12-0 second half run to take a lead it would never lose as the Crusaders received a game-high 29 points from junior guard Tyshawn Good to earn an 82-71 win at North Greenville this evening. The win, which gives the Abbey a sweep of the season series, moves the Crusaders record to 12-6 overall and 6-2 in Conference Carolinas, while North Greenville dips to 10-7 overall and 4-5 in Conference Carolinas.

Good, who had 18 points in the first half, was one of four Crusaders to reach double figures as he sank ten of 22 shots, three of ten from three-point range, and six of seven free throw attempts. He also had three rebounds and four assists. Kyle Phillips added 19 points on eight of 19 shooting with seven rebounds. Jay Council added 15 points on a nearly perfect effort, sinking six of seven field goals and three of four from three-point range. He added four rebounds and two assists. Terrone Sheffey chipped in with 11 points and six rebounds. The Crusaders shot 43.9 percent (29-66) from the field and 33 percent (6-18) from three-point range.

Paul Harrison led North Greenville with 24 points, while Chris Dean added 20 and Jonathan Bozymowski posted 12. North Greenville shot 44.3 percent (27-61) from the floor but made just three three-pointers in 16 attempts (18.8 percent).

Neither team built a lead any higher than five points until the Abbey's late second half run as the Crusaders built a 35-33 halftime lead on the strength of Good's 18 points. Good tied the score at 28 with 3:17 left, which started a 7-5 Abbey run to close the half. Good scored five of the seven points in the run.

The second half started with eight ties and 16 lead changes, which lasted until a Phillips jumper with 9:04 left tied the game for the last time. North Greenville turned the ball over on its next possession, and Phillips put the Abbey ahead to stay with a short jumper with 8:32 left. The Crusaders scored the game's next ten points to pull ahead 68-58 with 6:19 left.

A North Greenville run chopped the lead down to five with 2:32 left, but the Crusaders pulled away by scoring ten of the game's last 14 points, seven of those coming from the free throw line, as the Abbey sealed the win.

Good's 29 points moves his career total to 958, while Phillips's total now stands at 1,287, needing just three to move into 20th place on the school's all-time list.
