Men's Lacrosse Uses Big Second Half To Defeat Lees-McRae, 16-6

The Belmont Abbey College men's lacrosse team outscored Lees-McRae College by an 11-2 margin in the second half after leading by a razor-thin 5-4 score at the half to earn a 16-6 win over the Bobcats this afternoon. The Abbey evens its record to 5-5 overall and 2-3 in Conference Carolinas, while Lees-McRae drops to 0-9 overall and 0-3 in Conference Carolinas.

Scotty Steele led the Abbey with four goals on six shots, as Tanner Scharr and Ryan Corrigan each posted a hat trick and an assist. Nick Boylan, Dan Morrissey, Brendan Rogers, and Brian Watson each tallied a goal and an assist, while Tony Kikola made four saves through the first three quarters before giving way to Merrick Reiland, who recorded six stops in the fourth quarter for the Abbey

The Crusaders outshot the Bobcats by a 49-26 margin, while holding a 13-10 advantage in face-off wins and edging Lees-McRae 31-27 in ground balls.

The Bobcats scored the only goal in the first quarter, but the Crusaders rallied for five in the second, two coming from Steele, as the Abbey broke out to a 5-4 lead at the break.

The second half was all Belmont Abbey, erupting for the first six goals in the third quarter before yielding one late. The Crusaders put the game out of reach in the final 15 minutes, scoring five goals by four different players.
