Men's Lacrosse Hangs Tough, But Loses To #1 Limestone, 15-9 In Conference Carolinas Tournament Semifinal

The Belmont Abbey men's lacrosse team battled Limestone gamely through three quarters, but the Saints outscored the Crusaders 6-2 in the final 15 minutes to stave off an upset and claim a 15-9 win in the semifinal round of the 2011 Conference Carolinas Tournament. Limestone, the number-one ranked team in NCAA Divsion II, stays unbeaten at 13-0 as it advances to the final, while the Abbey ends its season at 5-7.

Nick Boylan opened the scoring just 2:07 into the game as he won the face off and scored to put the Crusaders up 1-0. Limestone scored the next two goals to move ahead, but Ryan Corrigan scored off of a feed from Dan Morrissey to deadlock the game at two with 7:56 to go.

Limestone again scored the next two goals to regain the lead, but Boylan scored the final goal of the quarter, with 58 seconds left, to cut the lead to 4-3.

Both teams scored two goals in the second quarter as the Saints held a 6-5 edge at the half. Boylan opened the third quarter with a goal to knot the game at six. After a Limestone goal, Boylan struck again to pull the Abbey level, tying the game at seven with 10:19 to play.

Limestone scored the final two goals of the quarter, both by Riley Loewen, to put the Saints on top for good. Limestone outscored the Crusaders 6-2 in the fourth to pull away and seal the win.
