Belmont Abbey sophomore forward Ananda Gebreyesus scored the only goal of the match at the 51:23 mark to power the Crusaders women's soccer team past the visiting Queens Royals 1-0 this afternoon at Alumni Field. The win moves the Abbey's record to 8-7 overall and 7-2 in Conference Carolinas, while Queens drops to 5-8-1 overall and 5-3-1 in Conference Carolinas.

The Abbey held off the Royals after a red card just 18 minutes in forced it to play a man down, but Gebreyesus scored the only goal of the match when she finished off of a rebounded Rebecca Mateo shot to give the Abbey a 1-0 lead that would prove to be game winner. It is Gebreyesus's team-leading eighth goal of the year.

Belmont Abbey held an 8-6 advantage in shots, but the Royals took three corner kicks to just one for the Crusaders.

It is the Abbey's sixth shutout of the year and the fifth against Conference Carolinas opponents.
