The seventh ranked Lions' lacrosse team defeated the Crusaders
of Belmont Abbey College, 11-6 Wednesday night at the Ammons Family
Athletic Center and Meares Stadium. Mars Hill improved to 4-1 on
the year while Belmont Abbey fell to 1-3 on the season.
The first quarter was a defensive battle. The teams ended the
first period with a 1-all tie. MHC then exploded for five second
half goals while allowing the Crusaders only another single score
to take a 6-2 advantage into the locker room at halftime.
The Crusaders won the third stanza, 3-2 but the Lions answered
out scoring Belmont Abbey 3-2 in the last quarter to make the final
tally 11-6 in favor of the Lions.
Belmont Abbey out shot MHC, 38-33 and won 14-18 face-offs
against the Lions. The ground ball battle was tied at 29-all. The
Abbey was 4-13 on extra man opportunities while MHC converted on
2-8 of their man-up chances.
Danny Farmer led MHC with four goals and the same number of
assists. Tyler Farmer followed with three goals while Eric Benesch
added a goal and a pair of assists. Cade Zulak recorded two goals
in the win. Dylan Price played the entire 60 minutes in goal for
Mars Hill and made 12 saves and picked up four ground balls.
Dave DiLuigi led Belmont Abbey with three goals and two ground
balls. Ryan Corrigan added a goal and a pair of assists in the
loss. Tony Kikola also played the entire contest in the net for the
Crusaders and made 10 saves to go along with four ground balls.
