The Belmont Abbey volleyball team earned its fifth-straight win, which included rallying from six down in the third set, to claim a 3-0 win over the visiting Erskine College Flying Fleet this evening before a spirited crowed of 130 this evening at the Wheeler Center. Set scores were 25-22, 25-23 and 25-23. The Abbey moves to 16-6 overall and 9-3 in Conference Carolinas, while Erskine drops to 14-6 overall and 10-2 in Conference Carolinas. The win moves the Abbey to within one game of Erskine for second place in the Conference Carolinas standings. The two teams split the season series.

Neither team was strong offensively, especially in the first set as the Abbey hit .095 but held Erskine to a .049 attack. For the match, the Crusaders hit .169 (37 kills, 17 errors on 118 total attacks) and limited Erskine to a .057 attack (35 kills, 28 errors on 123 total attacks). Angela Jubb paced the Crusader efforts with ten kills, two digs, a block solo and a block assist. Lydia Schellenberg added eight kills and nine digs, while Remick Tiller posted eight kills, nine digs and two service aces, the final one coming on match point to seal the win. Kay Schellenberg logged a double double with 28 assists and ten digs. She also had a block assist.

Taylor Stern led the way with 12 digs, while libero Heather Wagner finished with 11. Both teams finished with 55 digs apiece.
Erksine's Jamie Murray led all players with 15 kills to go along with eight digs. Larz Chabra handed out 26 assists. Libero Brooke Dodge led all players with 20 digs, while Liz Massey finished with ten.

In the clinching third set, the Abbey trailed 18-12 before it made its move, winning the next five points. The Abbey used a kill by Jubb, an attack error by Massey, a kill from Lydia Schellenberg and two-straight attack errors from Lauren Stewart to pull the Crusaders to within one at 18-17. Following kills from Stewart and Lydia Schellenberg made the score 19-18 Erskine, a Stewart attack error deadlocked the set at 19. Erskine grabbed the lead right back with a kill from Murray, but a kill from Tiller, followed by an Erskine attack error, gave the Crusaders the lead for the first time since 7-6 earlier in the set.

Consecutive kills from Erskine gave it the lead at 22-21, but it would never lead again. An error from Murray, and then another after her attempt was blocked by Victoria Jensen and Jennifer Angelich gave the Abbey a 23-22 lead. A Crusader error knotted the game at 23, but Tiller ended the match by scoring the last two points on a kill and a service ace to seal the win.
