Women's Basketball Races Past Erskine, 80-56

Belmont Abbey shot 50 percent from the floor as four starters and five players overall reached double figures to lead the Crusaders women's basketball team past Erskine 80-56 this evening at the Wheeler Center. Belmont Abbey improves to 5-6 overall and 3-3 in Conference Carolinas, while the Flying Fleet drop to 5-5 overall and 4-2 in Conference Carolinas.

Senior guard Courtney Naquin led for Crusaders in double figures with a team-high 18 points and six assists. She finished six for 12 shooting from the field and also collected a blocked shot and a steal. Sophomore Paula Regalado came off the bench to contribute 16 points on six of eight shooting with three rebounds, two assists and a steal. Kelsey Daniel added 13 points, nine rebounds and three assists, while Shayla Jackson and Ashley Giddens both finished with ten points. Jackson also had seven rebounds and an assist. Asha Hardaway posted eight points but had a game-high 14 rebounds as the Abbey dominated the glass by a 47-33 count. Hardaway added four assists and a steal in all 40 minutes.

Erskine was led by Porsha Morgan's 22 points, while Elizabeth Tatum contributed 13 and Audrey Timmerman had 11 as the Flying Fleet shot 34 percent from the floor, but just two for 15 from three-point range.

The Abbey never trailed after being down 2-0 as it zoomed out to a 15 point lead, its largest of the half, on the strength of an 18-5 run after it led 14-13 with 12:01 left in the half. Naquin connected on a trifecta of three-pointers in the flurry.

Erskine went on a run of its own to trim the lead to eight, but the Crusaders closed the half on a 5-2 run in the final 1:46 to tak ea 41-29 lead into the break.

The second half was all Belmont Abbey, as it outscored Erskine 39-27 in the stanza, as its lead never dipped into the single digits. Its largest lead was 25 points, which came on a jumper by Autumn Smith-Faulkner with 59 seconds left.
