Belmont Abbey freshman midfielder Ross Smith scored the golden goal 2:12 into the first overtime period, as the Abbey scored two unanswered goals to earn a 2-1 overtime win over St. Andrews for the 500th win in Belmont Abbey men's soccer history, which began play in 1958. The Abbey improves to 4-3-1 overall and 2-2-0 in Conference Carolinas, while the Knights drop to 3-5-0 overall and 1-2-0 in Conference Carolinas.

The Crusaders outshot St. Andrews 14-5 and had a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks, but the Knights struck first at the 26:16 mark. Brian Humphrey steamed down the left side of the field and sent a cross to the center of the box, where Curtis Kibayu headed home the winner for a 1-0 SAPC lead.

St. Andrews held onto its lead for the next 14 minutes before the Abbey gained the equalizer, as Jose Penaloza lifted a pass over the head of goalkeeper William Williams to the waiting feet of Emmanual Yamson, who was unmarked and one-timed a shot into the empty net for his eighth goal of the year.

Both teams had plenty of scoring chances in the second half, but neither could find the back of the net. Jack Reid and Aaron Weldon had the Abbey's best chances to score, as Reid banged a shot of the crossbar early in the half, and Weldon's 30-yard shot was tipped over the net by Williams. Yamson had a chance in the closing seconds of regulation, but his volley sailed just high.

In overtime, the Abbey struck quickly for the winner. James Lawrence Forbes sailed a pass ahead to Smith, who beat his man and slid a low shot under Williams that just found the inside right corner for the goal.

Williams made two saves for the Knights, while counterpart Louis Liberatore collected a pair as well.
