Men's Lacrosse Earns Key Road Win At Catawba, 13-7

Belmont Abbey midfielder Dave DiLuigi scored five goals and won seven of eight face offs as the Crusaders men's lacrosse team snapped a three-game losing streak with a 13-7 win at Catawba this evening. The Abbey improves to 3-5, while the Indians fall to 2-5.

DiLuigi led all players with five goals on 12 shots, while Michael Brown, Jedd Gardner and Terrance Sullivan each contributed a pair of goals. Miles Elliott and Joey Peruzzi both had one goal. Brown led all players with three assists, while DiLuigi, Elliott, Matt Spivey and Brendan Wood each had one.

Belmont Abbey led 5-1 after the first period as DiLuigi and Brown both scored twice, and Sullivan added the other. Both teams scored one goal each in the second period as DiLuigi fed Gardner as the Abbey took a 6-2 lead at the half.

The advantage grew to 9-4 after three periods as DiLuigi scored twice, while Gardner and Sullivan added another. Sullivan's goal came with a man down. The Crusaders outscored the Indians 4-3 in the final period to seal the win.

Belmont Abbey outshot the Indians 44-30 and won the ground ball battle 32-29 as Brian Watson led the way with five. Brown and Peruzzi had four each. The Abbey caused 11 turnovers as goalkeeper Tony Kikola and defenseman Tom Ottman led the way with three each. Kikola made five saves in the cage.
