The third-seeded Belmont Abbey women's basketball team was
eliminated in the Conference Carolinas Tournament semifinal round
at second-seeded Mount Olive College by a 70-59 score this evening
at Kornegay Arena. The Abbey finishes its season with a 19-10
record, while Mount Olive, which will host the championship game
Sunday afternoon after the top-seeded Barton Bulldogs were defeated
by Anderson University, improves to 23-6.
Lady Crusader sophomore forward Shayla Jackson led all scorers
with 22 points on 10-16 shooting from the floor with five rebounds,
an assist, a blocked shot and a steal. She was the only Abbey
player to reach double figures as the Lady Crusaders shot 42.9
percent (24-56) from the field. Senior forward Emma Camp and junior
guard Kelsey Daniel both tied for the team high with seven rebounds
apiece. Daniel posted nine points and Camp registered eight. Daniel
added three assists, three steals and a pair of blocked shots.
Mount Olive was led by Tomeka Pritchard's 20 points, 18 in the
second half, as she led four Lady Trojans in double figures.
Jasmine Whitby posted 16, while Brittney Robich and Brittany Miller
scored 11 and 10, respectively. Mount Olive shot 45.3 percent
(24-53) for the contest.
The contest featured three ties and 11 lead changes, with the
Abbey holding a 27-22 lead at the half as it held Mount Olive to
just six made field goals in 23 attempts (23.1 percent). Mount
Olive would shoot 66.7 percent (18-27) in the second half as it
outscored the Abbey 48-32 in the final 20 minutes.
