The Belmont Abbey women's basketball team shot 52.7 percent from
the floor and an opportunistic defense forced 21 turnovers as the
Lady Crusaders won at Converse 70-62 this evening. The Abbey
improves to 14-7 overall and 12-4 in Conference Carolinas, while
Converse slips to 4-18 overall and 4-13 in Conference
Carolinas.
Abbey sophomore forward Shayla Jackson led four Lady Crusaders
in double figures with a game-high16 points on eight of 13 shooting
from the floor, while grabbing eight rebounds, dishing out three
assists, blocking two shots and collecting two steals in 34
minutes. Kala Nwachukwu posted 14 points on seven of nine shooting,
while Courtney Naquin and Asha Hardaway both finished with 12
points. Naquin sank five of her ten field goal attempts, while
dishing out a career-high 11 assists in 37 minutes, while Hardaway
converted three of five field goal attempts and just missed a
double double with nine rebounds as the Lady Crusaders won the
rebounding edge 30-29.
Belmont Abbey shot well from the field, converting 29 of its 55
field goal attempts, while holding Converse to a 42.3 percent
(22-52) effort. Converse was led by Sydney Brown's 14 points, while
Ashley Arff posted 12. Brandy Williams and Jasmine Collier both
finished with ten.
