Tied at 28 at halftime, the Belmont Abbey men's basketball team
outscored Coker 45-41 in the second half as it held on to defeat
the Cobras 73-69 this evening in Hartsville. The Abbey improves to
13-7 overall and 10-4 in Conference Carolinas, while Coker falls to
9-11 overall and 5-8 in Conference Carolinas.
Belmont Abbey shot 47.4 percent (27-57) for the game and 55.6
percent (15-27) in the second half, matching Coker nearly basket
for basket as the Cobras shot 63 percent (17-27) in the final 20
minutes and 51.8 (29-56) for the game. Senior guard Jonathan
Jackson led four Crusaders in double figures with 15 points on five
of ten shooting, while freshman forward Kyle Phillips came off the
bench to score 14 on six of ten shooting from the floor to go along
with five rebounds and two steals. Richard Barbee contributed 12
points, two assists and two steals, while Chad Patus posted ten
points on four of eight shooting. Barbee posted seven rebounds
which tied for the game high as the Abbey held the advantage on the
glass 33-28.
Josh Poston led the Cobras with 14 points, while Mason Ambler
added 12.
