The Belmont Abbey women's basketball team, wearing its pink jerseys in honor of Think Pink week, had five players reach double figures as it upset the league-leading Mount Olive Lady Trojans 75-56 this evening on their home court. The Abbey, which avenged an earlier loss to Mount Olive, extends its winning streak to four as it improves to 17-7 overall and pulls within one game of Mount Olive with a 15-4 Conference Carolinas mark, while the Lady Trojans slip to 20-4 overall and 16-3 in Conference Carolinas.

Belmont Abbey shot 47 percent (22-47) from the floor and 50 percent (7-14) from three point range as Courtney Naquin led five players, and all scorers, in double figures with 14 points, three assists and a steal. Sophomore forward Shayla Jackson posted a double double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. She also had six assists, a career-high five blocked shots and a steal, all in 29 minutes. Asha Hardaway and Ashley Giddens both finished with 12 points as Hardaway sank four of her eight field goal attempts with six rebounds and two assists. Giddens added 12 points, five assists and three steals, as she converted four of her nine field goal attempts. Kelsey Daniel added her second-straight ten point game, converting three of five field goal attempts, including her only three-point attempt, while registering a pair of steals.

The Abbey built a 20-point lead at the half, 39-19 behind a 46 percent shooting effort and holding Mount Olive to a 27 percent outing. The Lady Crusaders would shoot 48 percent in the final 20 minutes and held Mount Olive to a 43 percent effort. The Abbey held a commanding 48-37 edge on the boards and forced 16 turnovers.

Mount Olive was led by Jasmine Whitby and Shequanta McGee, who both finished with 12 points. They were the only Lady Trojans to reach double figures as they shot 36 percent (20-56) for the game.
