Belmont Abbey junior guard Richard Barbee became the 33rd player in school history to eclipse the 1000 point plateau with 13 points as the Crusaders men's basketball team upped its record to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in Conference Carolinas with a 72-60 win over the visiting Coker Cobras this evening at the Wheeler Center. The Cobras fall to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in Conference play.

Barbee entered the contest needing ten points to reach a thousand, and finished with 13 points, 11 coming in the second half to move his career total to 1,003 points. His 13 points was second behind senior forward Chad Patus, who poured in a game-high 22 points and pulled down 14 rebounds. Barbee also had six rebounds, four steals and a pair of assists. Senior guard Patrick Kuhlman, who was recently accepted into medical school at Florida State University, added 12 points, all from beyond the arc, with one assist.

Coker's Mason Ambler had his fourth double-double of the season with 14 points and 13 rebounds, while Vatrick Thompson led the Cobra scorers with 16 points. Joselle Bracy was the third Cobra in double figures, netting 11 points while pulling down four rebounds.

The Crusaders never trailed and led by as many as 20. The Cobras knotted the contest once, at 37 with 13:47 left, but the Abbey quickly regained control to earn the win.
