Belmont Abbey freshman guard Tyshawn Good led five Crusaders in
double figures with a game-high 18 points as the Crusaders men's
basketball team moved to 2-0 with an easy 88-50 win over Johnson
& Wales this evening at the Wheeler Center. J&W falls to
0-3 on the year.
Good, who scored 12 of his 18 points in the second half,
converted eight of his ten field goal attempts and finished with
four assists, two rebounds and a steal in 16 minutes. Kyle Phillips
added 13 points while Patrick Kuhlman and Andre Fells both added
11. Harvin Council posted ten as the Abbey shot 48 percent from the
floor, including 50 percent in the second half as it outscored
45-25 in the final stanza. Senior forward Chad Patus led all
players with ten rebounds. He also had five assists and a pair of
steals. Kuhlman posted eight assists in just 21 minutes as 26 of
the Abbey's 32 field goals were assisted.
J&W was led by Sean Debblay's 14 points, while James Atkins
posted 12 as it shot 37 percent from the floor.
The Abbey built a 43-25 advantage at the half, punctuated by a
buzzer-beating trifecta by Fells, and its 50 percent shooting
output in the second half allowed it to outscore Johnson &
Wales 45-25 in the half. The largest Abbey lead was 40 points at
83-43.
