The Belmont Abbey women's basketball team cut an 18-point second
half deficit to as few as three points, but the Pfeiffer women's
basketball team held on for a 66-63 win this evening in a
Conference Carolinas matchup. The win improves Pfieffer's record to
3-15 overall and 3-10 in Conference Carolinas, while the Abbey,
which had its four-game winning streak snapped, falls to 12-6
overall and 10-3 in Conference Carolinas.
Belmont Abbey trailed 29-21 at the half but outscored Pfeiffer
42-37 in the final stanza, cutting an 18 point deficit down to
three with under ten seconds left, but the Lady Falcons hit their
free throws to escape with the win. The Lady Crusaders shot 32.3
percent (20-62) from the field as sophomore forward Shayla Jackson
led three players in double figures with 20 points on nine of 20
shooting from the floor, while grabbing nine rebounds, dishing out
three assists and collecting three steals. Junior guard Ashley
Giddens added 14 points, two assists and two steals in 40 minutes,
while Kelsey Daniel chipped in with 11 points, seven rebounds and
two steals in 27 minutes. Along with Giddens, Courtney Naquin also
played all 40 minutes, posting nine points and a game-high six
assists.
Pfeiffer shot 40.7 percent (22-54) as it received 20 points from
Jamila Hill, while Devona Knight posted a double double with 12
points and 15 rebounds.
