Belmont Abbey shot 63 percent from the floor as junior center
Alex Pledger led all scorers with 27 points as the Crusaders men's
basketball team earned a 105-80 win at Pfeiffer this evening. The
win, the Abbey's highest margin of victory over the Falcons, moves
the Crusaders record to 11-6 overall and 8-3 in Conference
Carolinas, while Pfeiffer falls to 10-8 overall and 7-4 in
Conference Carolinas.
Pledger led four Crusaders with 27 points on 11-14 shooting from
the field in just 20 minutes.. He narrowly missed a double double
as he pulled down nine rebounds, blocked three shots and registered
an assist and a steal. Chad Patus recorded his third double double
in four games with 18 points and 12 rebounds. He sank eight of his
12 field goal attempts and had nine defensive rebounds to go along
with three steals and two assists. Richard Barbee added 19 points
on eight of nine shooting, while dishing out a career-high five
assists and a steal. Senior Kashif Gumbs came off the bench and
contributed 13 points on four of six shooting in just 15 minutes.
The Abbey shot 73 percent in the first half as it built a 54-35
halftime advantage.
Pfeiffer was led by Jeff Pettiway's 24 points, while Athalie
Rivera added 15 and Robert McGriff posted 11 as the Falcons shot 37
percent from the field.
