Belmont Abbey senior guard Jonathan Jackson tied his career-high
with 33 points, one of four Crusaders to reach double figures, as
the Abbey men's basketball team upended Queens 98-92 this evening
at the Grady Cole Center. Belmont Abbey, winners of four of its
last five, improves to 10-5 overall and 7-2 in Conference
Carolinas, while the Royals fall to 3-13 overall and 2-7 in
Conference Carolinas.
Jackson, who had 22 points at the half, the last three coming on
an NBA range three pointer at the buzzer, sank ten of his 18 field
goal attempts, including an eight of 13 effort from three-point
range, and five of his six free throw attempts. Sophomore guard
Richard Barbee added 21 points on a blistering nine of 11 effort
shooting, while senior guard Deonte Murphy and junior forward Chad
Patus both finished with 14 points as the Crusaders shot 59.6
percent (34-57) from the field and 63.6 percent (14-22) from
three-point range.
Queens shot 55.9 percent (38-68) from the field but just 26.7
percent (4-15) from three-point range. Reggie Hopkins led the way
with 25 points.
