Five different Crusaders scored as visiting Belmont Abbey
College defeated St. Andrews Presbyterian College, 5-0, in
Conference Carolinas women's soccer action on Saturday
afternoon.
The Lady Crusaders, who are ranked No. 4 in the NSCAA/adidas
Southeast Region Poll, remain undefeated at 6-0-2 overall and 3-0-0
in conference play as they improve their unbeaten streak to 20
matches. The Lady Knights maintain a 2-5-1 overall record and 0-4-0
league ledger.
The Abbey increases its shutout streak against conference
opponents to 14. The last goal the Abbey allowed in Conference play
came on September 22, 2007 when it defeated Limestone 4-1.
Senior Courtney Paquin put the Abbey on the scoreboard in the
ninth minute, scoring on a shot inside the 18-yard box. The
Crusaders extended their lead to 3-0 at halftime with goals by
junior Celene Molera in the 26th minute and sophomore Lindsay Palm
in the 45th minute.
Freshmen Rebecca Mateo and Connie Axiotis and junior Amanda
Maddock all registered assists in the first 45 minutes.
The Crusaders extended their lead in the second half with goals
by junior Kristin Voirin in the 57th minute and Mateo in the 80th
minute. Senior Lauren Faerber assisted on Voirin's goal and
freshman Maura Carter dded a helper on Mateo's tally.
Senior starter Anna Wells and junior backup Anna Donaldson
combined for the shutout in net for the Crusaders. Wells was
credited with the win making one save in her 45 minutes of
work.
The Abbey held a 17-4 shot advantage and 4-1 corner kick
edge.
Belmont Abbey hosts non-conference Brevard College on Monday at
4:00 p.m.
