Belmont Abbey freshman forward Shayla Jackson set a career-high
with 20 points as the Crusaders women's basketball team snapped its
three game losing streak with a 66-63 win at Pfeiffer this evening
in the regular season finale. The Abbey improves to 18-9 overall
and finishes with a 13-7 mark in Conference Carolinas, while
Pfeiffer falls to 10-16 overall and 7-12 in Conference
Carolinas.
Jackson led a trio of Crusaders in double figures with a
career-high 20 points on 10-13 shooting from the floor. She pulled
down four rebounds and collected three steals. Freshman Mercedes
King added 12 points on 3-7 shooting, and converted six of nine
free throw attempts. She added five rebounds and a pair of steals.
Freshman Asha Hardaway logged 11 points and nine rebounds. The
Abbey shot 48.8 percent (22-45) from the floor and won the
rebounding battle 41-38.
The Abbey, which has locked in the fourth-seed in the upcoming
Conference tournament, will host a first-round game on Monday,
March 3, with the time and opponent to be announced later.
