Box score

The top-seeded Belmont Abbey women's soccer team was upset by the third-seeded Pfeiffer University Falcons 1-0 this afternoon in the Conference Carolinas Tournament Championship match. Pfeiffer, which receives the automatic bid to next weekend's NCAA Southeast Regional, improves to 14-8, while the Abbey ends its season with a 17-3-3 mark.

Belmont Abbey outshot Pfeiffer 8-5 and held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks, but the Falcons scored the only goal of the match at exactly 29:00. Off of a Pfeiffer corner kick that bounced around several players, Sarah McCormack fired home the loose ball through four Abbey defenders from four yards out for what turned out to be the only goal of the match.

The Crusaders held possession for much of the second half, outshooting Pfeiffer 5-2 and holding a 4-1 edge in corner kicks in the period, but it could not find the back of the net.
