Box score
The Belmont Abbey women's soccer team scored three first half
goals and added another in the second half as the Crusaders
extended their Conference Carolinas unbeaten streak to 33 to hand
visiting Pfeiffer its first conference loss with a 4-0 win this
afternoon. The Abbey improves to 10-2-3 overall and 6-0-1 in
Conference Carolinas, while the Falcons dip to 8-6-0 and 5-1-0 in
Conference Carolinas.
The Crusaders controlled the entire match as it used a Pfeiffer
own goal at the 18:00 mark to grab a lead they would never lose.
After a Falcons foul, senior defender Danielle Kubinski lofted a
free kick to the top of the box, where a Pfeiffer defender headed
it backwards into her own goal for a 1-0 Abbey lead.
1:58 later, freshman Connie Axiotis made it 2-0, as Celene
Molera fired a shot from just to the right of the Falcons goal,
where keeper Jamie Alcala punched it right to Axiotis, who was all
alone at the center of the box where she one-timed the blast for a
2-0 lead.
Shortly before the half, Molera upped the advantage to 3-0,
where she weaved around several Pfeiffer defenders down the field,
deked a diving Alcala, and buried home a tally into the open
net.
The Crusaders ended the scoring in the 79th minute as Molera
assisted Maura Carter. Molera passed off to Carter in the center of
the box, and she lobbed a shot over Alcala's head to end the
scoring.
Both teams finished with eight shots, but four of the Crusaders
shots found the back of the net. The Abbey held a 7-2 advantage in
corner kicks. Anna Wells made five saves.
