Belmont Abbey freshman guard Mercedes King led four Crusaders in
double figures with a career-high 16 points as the Abbey women's
basketball team recorded an easy 82-41 win over Converse this
evening. The win ups the Crusaders record to 14-5, while Converse
falls to 3-21.
King, whose previous career-high was 15 points in the win over
Pfeiffer, was nearly perfect from the floor as she sank five of her
six field goal attempts, including two three-pointers in three
attempts, as well as converting all four free throw attempts. She
also pulled down three rebounds and collected one assist and a
steal in just 13 minutes.
Sophomore guard Kelsey Daniel added 13 points on five of nine
shooting, while freshman forward Shayla Jackson added 12 points on
four of five shooting from the field and a four for four effort
from the free throw line. She added seven rebounds and a pair of
steals. Asha Hardaway added 11 points, six rebounds and three
steals. Junior forward Emma Camp led all players with eight
rebounds as the Abbey recorded a 38-29 advantage on the boards. The
Abbey shot 50.8 percent (30-59) from the floor.
Converse was led by Jessica McMahan's 10 points, while Brandy
Williams added eight as it shot 29.8 percent (14-47) from the
floor.
The Crusaders are back in action Thursday night at 5:30 when
they go on the road to face Erskine.
