Belmont Abbey sophomore guard Patrick Kuhlman converted four
free throws in the final six seconds to seal an 81-78 win over
Limestone this afternoon at the Wheeler Center. The Abbey, winners
of two straight, improve to 10-8 overall and 8-3 in Converence
Carolinas, while the Saints fall to 3-12 overall and 1-9 in
conference play.
The Abbey shot 42.4 percent (25-59) from the floor as junior
guard Jonathan Jackson led four Crusaders in double figures with 22
points. He finished the day six of 17 from the field and converted
six of seven free throw attempts in 37 minutes. Freshman guard
Richard Barbee added 18 points on seven of 12 shooting, to go along
with five rebounds, a blocked shot and two steals in just 21
minutes. Chad Patus narrowly missed a double double with 15 points
and nine rebounds. He was perfect from the free throw line, sinking
all five of his attempts. Ric Marczenko posted a double double with
14 points and 11 rebounds as the Crusaders won the rebounding
marging 37-36.
Limestone was led by Marques Wilson's 23 points as he was among
four Saints in double figures. Bobby Grier added 15 on three of
four shooting from the floor and recorded a pair of assists, and
Andrae Franklin contributed a double double with 13 points and 11
rebounds in just 25 minutes. The Saints finished the day shooting
48.2 percent (27-56) from the field.
The Abbey is back in action Thursday night at 7:30 when it goes
on the road to face Erskine.
