NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Belmont Abbey field hockey continued its strong opening stretch as the Crusaders began South Atlantic Conference play against No. 3 Newberry Tuesday at Setzler Field.
The Crusaders took four shots but it was the Wolves who came away with the 7-0 victory.
With Tuesday's results, Belmont Abbey is 0-3 overall and 0-1 in South Atlantic Conference play. Newberry is 2-0 overall and 2-0 in the league.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Newberry took a 2-0 lead in the first quarter.
- Isabella Hite took the first of four shots for the Crusaders on the evening.
- Annmarie Mullen got the start in goal in the first half and made three saves in goal.
- The Wolves added two more goals in the second quarter less than 20 seconds apart.
- Lily Willard made one save in goal in the second half for the Abbey.
- Newberry scored three more goals in the final 30 minutes.
- Belmont Abbey finished with six penalty corners.
