BANNER ELK, N.C. – The Belmont Abbey women's soccer team opened Conference Carolinas play with a scoreless draw against Northwest Division foe Lees-McRae Saturday afternoon at Tate Field.
The start of the match was delayed by two hours due to inclement weather.
The Crusaders outshot the Bobcats 12-5 but were unable to find the back of the net.
Ryleigh Dougherty had two saves in the contest.
Belmont Abbey is now 2-1-1 overall while Lees-McRae is 1-1-1. Both teams are 0-0-1 to begin conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- It was a defensive battle early on as the first shot on goal did not take place until the 17th minute from Kate Jaques.
- Belmont Abbey took nine shots, four on goal in the first 45 minutes.
- Haley Long and Kelcey Morris led the Crusaders with three shots each.
- Dougherty made one save in each half.
- Lees-McRae took a shot in the final seconds but missed to keep the match scoreless.
- Belmont Abbey had four corner kicks while Lees-McRae did not have one in the match.
