Bolado Records Fifth Double-Double in Five-Set Win

MURFREESBORO, N.C. -- Renata Bolado posted her fifth double-double of the season and Lola Sultenfuss topped double figures in kills for the fifth time this season, leading Belmont Abbey to a thrilling 3-2 (25-13, 23-25, 23-25, 25-21, 15-13) victory over Chowan in Conference Carolinas women's volleyball action Saturday afternoon.

With the victory, the Crusaders improve to 8-4 overall and 3-2 in league play, while Chowan falls to 3-9, 2-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Bolado finished with 19 kills on 51 attempts, while Sultenfuss added 10 kills and hit .222. Katie Brookins contributed five kills against no errors to high .417.
  • Emma Youngblood registered 47 assists and nine digs, while Tyler Case added eight kills and 15 digs. Sheridan Young also finished with 15 digs.
  • Belmont Abbey finished with 93 digs,the second-highest total of the year. The Crusaders also recorded four service aces, including two from Maya Swenson.
  • The Abbey dominated the opening set, hitting .167 while holding Chowan to a negative hitting percentage and closing out a 25-13 victory.
  • Chowan answered by taking the second set 25-23, despite Belmont Abbey rallying from a 17-11 deficit to tie the set at 17-all.
  • In the third set, the Crusaders again battled back, turning an 18-13 deficit into a 20-20 tie. Belmont Abbey briefly took leads of 21-20 and 22-21 before Chowan closed the set with three of the final four points to win 25-23.
  • Belmont Abbey responded in the fourth set, using a strong late stretch after the teams were tied at 15-all to pull away for a 25-21 victory. The Crusaders hit .229 in the set.
  • In the deciding fifth set, Belmont Abbey overcame an 11-11 tie and closed the match with four of the final six points, including an ace by Swenson, to earn the 15-13 victory.
  • The Crusaders finished the match with 55 kills and a .161 hitting percentage, while Chowan recorded 47 kills and hit .056.
