Dougherty Makes Eight Saves at Francis Marion

FLORENCE, S.C. — Ryleigh Dougherty made eight saves, four in each half, but a second-minute goal propelled Francis Marion to a 2-0 win over Belmont Abbey in Conference Carolinas women's soccer action Saturday morning.

Belmont Abbey falls to 4-2-2 overall and 2-1-2 in Conference Carolinas, while Francis Marion improves to 4-3-0 and 2-1-0 in league play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Francis Marion scored an unassisted goal just 1:38 into the match to take an early lead.
  • The Crusaders created several opportunities in the opening half, with Haley Long putting two shots on target and Fina Mochi adding another shot on goal, but all three were saved
  • The Patriots doubled their advantage at 81:21, ending a chance at an equalizer.
  • Belmont Abbey finished with 11 shots, including four on target. Long led the Crusaders with three shots and two shots on goal, while Caroline Roche added three shots.
  • Francis Marion finished with a 21-11 advantage in shots and 10-4 edge in shots on goal. The Patriots also held a 7-5 advantage in corner kicks.
