WILSON, N.C. --Renata Bolado tallied 11 kills and Sheridan Young registered 23 digs, but Belmont Abbey dropped a 3-0 (25-18, 25-16, 27-25) decision to Barton in Conference Carolinas women's volleyball action Friday night. The match was the first of three straight on the road, including two in Eastern North Carolina.
With the result, the Crusaders fall to 7-4 overall and 2-2 in Conference Carolinas play, while Barton improves to 3-9, 1-4.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Zoey Bradford contributed six kills and 11 assists, hitting .357, while Emma Youngblood added 12 assists and nine digs.
- Bolado, Young and Mary Grace Hogue each had an ace, but the Bullogs tallied 10 as a team
- The Abbey finished the contest with 65 digs, tied for sixth in a three-set match in school history.
- Barton jumped out to a 9-3 lead in the opening set, but Belmont Abbey battled back to cut the deficit to 16-14. The Bulldogs closed the set with a 9-4 run to take a 25-18 victory. In the second set, Barton followed a similar route, finishing on a 12-5 run to take the set 25-16.
- Belmont Abbey saved its best stretch for the third set, rallying from a 21-17 deficit to take a 24-21 lead.
- The Crusaders hit just .077 in the contest (31k-22e-117a), while Barton connected at a .192 clip.
