BRISTOL, Tenn. — Anthony Armas converted a first half penalty kick while
Jackson Bennett recorded his third clean sheet of the season as Belmont Abbey defeated King 1-0 Wednesday afternoon in Conference Carolinas play at Parks Field.
The Crusaders battled and held off a late surge from the Tornado to earn its first conference win of the season.
Belmont Abbey improves to 2-3-2 overall and 1-3-0 in Conference Carolinas play to go with a 1-2 mark in the Northwest Division. King is 0-6 overall, 0-3 in the league and 0-2 in the division.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams finished with nine shots in the first half of the contest.
- The Crusaders took three shots on goal in the first 20 minutes of the match.
- A foul in the box from King set up Anthony Armas to convert from the spot in the 31st minute.
- Luca Pereira led the Abbey with five shots, two on target.
- Bennett made all four of his saves in the first half.
- King took three shots in the final five minutes of the match but none of them were on target.
- Belmont Abbey outshot King 21-15 in the match.
