BELMONT, N.C. -- Renata Bolado led three player with double-figure kills and had five service aces, leading Belmont Abbey to a 3-1 win (26-24, 25-18, 23-25, 25-22) over King in Conference Carolinas women's volleyball action at the Wheeler Center. Bolado finished with 22 kills and a .354 hitting percentage, while also adding two assists, six digs and two block assists.
With the win, the Crusaders improve to 8-3 overall and 3-1 in league play, while King falls to 7-4 and 2-2. The teams are 1-0 and 0-2 in Northwest Division play..
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Tyler Case added 13 kills, nine digs and four aces, while Lola Sultenfuss had a dozen kills
- Emma Youngblood recorded 42 assists, while Sheridan Young added 19 digs. Maya Swenson chipped in seven digs
- Belmont Abbey overcame a late deficit in the opening set, using kills from Lola Sultenfuss and a triple block from Case, Sultenfuss and Zoey Bradford to close out a 26-24 win.
- The Crusaders hit .368 in the second set, recording 18 kills against just four errors. Belmont Abbey used an 8-2 run to take an 18-14 lead before pulling away for a 25-18 victory.
- Bolado had eight kills in the third set while hitting .636, but King used a 5-0 run to take a 17-13 lead before holding on 25-23.
- Belmont Abbey opened the fourth set with an 8-2 advantage and later led 18-17 before King scored five straight points to take a 22-18 lead.
- The Crusaders responded with six consecutive points to finish the match, including three straight kills from Bolado and a King attack error on match point.
- Belmont Abbey finished with 15 aces as a team and 17 block assists, both season highs.
