BRISTOL, Tenn. — Haley Long recorded her third career brace and
Ryleigh Dougherty recorded a clean sheet as the Belmont Abbey women's soccer team defeated King 2-0 in a Northwest Division match Tuesday afternoon at Parks Field.
Both of Long's goals came in the second half to help the Crusaders remain unbeaten in Conference Carolinas play. Additionally, Dougherty made a season-high six saves in the victory for the Abbey.
With Tuesday's result, Belmont Abbey is now 4-1-2 overall, 2-0-2 in Conference Carolinas play and 2-0-1 in the Northwest Division. King is 2-4 overall, 1-2 in the league and 1-1 in the division.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Crusaders outshot the Tornado 12-6 in the first half.
- Belmont Abbey had seven corner kicks with five coming in the first 45 minutes.
- Long scored her first goal of the match in the 54th minute off an assist from Carmen Jones.
- She added her second goal in the 64th minute that was assisted by Hannah Willis. She led the team with four shots.
- It is the third career brace for Long. Her previous two came in matches against Erskine on September 30, 2023 and October 31, 2025.
- Belmont Abbey finished the match with 20 shots (10 on target) compared to 11 and six for King.
