SALISBURY, N.C. — The Belmont Abbey men's soccer team earned a 2-2 draw its season opener at Catawba Thursday evening at Frock Field.
The Crusaders managed to erase a two-goal halftime deficit thanks to tallies from
Austin Ball and
Adam Hill in the second half. Belmont Abbey earned the draw despite being outshot 17-4.
Both teams are 0-0-1 following the match.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Jackson Bennett made five saves in goal in his first career start for the Abbey.
- Catawba's two goals came in the first half in the 14th and 17th minutes, respectively.
- The Crusaders were held without a shot in the first half.
- Ball's goal in the 57th minute was also the first shot of the match for the Crusaders.
- The second goal came less than two minutes later when Adam Hill scored off an assist from Finn Wiliams.
- Bennett made a late save in the last five minutes of the match to help preserve the draw.

- The Crusaders open the home schedule with a contest against Newberry on Saturday night.
