MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. -- Brandon Boschi scored six goals and the Belmont Abbey defense held Mount Olive to just three, capping the Crusaders' undefeated conference season with a 14-3 victory over the Trojans Trojans Friday afternoon.
The Abbey finishes the regular season 14-3 overall and 8-0 in league play will be the top seed for the conference tournament next weekend. UMO falls to
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Belmont Abbey opened the game with the first three goals, then answered a late first-quarter tally by UMO with all five of the second quarter's goals.
- The Crusaders stretched the 8-1 lead at intermission to 12-3 after three quarters and finished with a 2-0 advantage in the final period.
- Boschi added an assist to finish with seven points. He took 11 shots overall with nine on goal and had four ground balls.
- Jacob Chandler scored three goals, while Jack Clough tallied three points on two goals and an assist.
- Eddie Kielkopf made 13 saves, allowing just three goals. He also led the team with six ground balls.
- Belmont Abbey outshot Mount Olive 37-33, but allowed just 16 Mount Olive shots on goal. The Crusaders also forced 24 Trojan turnovers.
