Drew Stegura picked up his eighth win of the season as the Belmont Abbey baseball team returned to Conference Carolinas play with a 14-7 win over Southern Wesleyan Friday at Dr. C. Keith Connor Field.
The Crusaders jumped out to a fast start by scoring five runs in the first two innings and broke the game open with a four-run sixth inning.
With Friday's results, Belmont Abbey is now 29-9 overall and 20-5 in Conference Carolinas play. Southern Wesleyan is 14-27 overall and 8-17 in league play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Crusaders got on the board with a pair of RBI singles from Michael Fattore and Jake Bidoglio in the first inning.
- Burr added his 13th home run of the season in the second inning to make it 5-0 Belmont Abbey.
- After Southern Wesleyan added a run in the third, the Crusaders pulled away in the fourth starting with an RBI from Burr on a bases-loaded walk.
- Jacob Steinberg and Bidoglio added RBI singles while Velotta drove in a run on a fielder's choice.
- He later scored on an RBI single from Boyles as Belmont Abbey capitalized on three errors from Southern Wesleyan in the inning.
- Stegura finished with two runs allowed on four hits and struck out five in six innings of work.
- Belmont Abbey scored runs in each of the final three innings to cap off the victory.
- Five Crusaders finished with multiple hits on the evening.
