BELMONT, N.C. — Caleb Burr hit a pair of home runs and
Jake Bidoglio had a home run as well but the Belmont Abbey baseball team took a pair of losses against UNC Pembroke in Conference Carolinas action Saturday afternoon at Abbey Yard.
The Crusaders fell 6-5 in eight innings in the opener before falling 20-4 in the nightcap.
Belmont Abbey is now 13-7 overall, 11-4 in Conference Carolinas play following Saturday's contests. UNC Pembroke is now 16-4 overall and 9-3 in league play.
GAME 1
- UNC Pembroke struck early with a two-run home run in the top of the first inning.
- The Crusaders answered quickly with a sacrifice fly from Joe Whitaker followed by a two-run single from Jacob Steinberg to make it 3-2 in favor of the Abbey.
- Spencer Cipro allowed just one hit through the next four innings.
- The Braves took the lead with two runs in the sixth on an RBI ground-rule double and an infield single.
- UNCP extended the lead to 5-3 after a sacrifice fly.
- The Crusaders pulled even with an RBI double from Matthew Fattore and he later scored on a sacrifice fly from Jake Bidoglio to tie the game at 5-5.
- The Braves took the lead with a bases-loaded error in the eighth inning.
- The Crusaders went down in order to end the game.
GAME 2
- The Crusaders got the second game off to a good start with back-to-back home runs from Bidoglio and Caleb Burr in the bottom of the first inning.
- UNC Pembroke responded with a seven-run second inning and capitalized on a pair of Crusader errors.
- Belmont Abbey had a chance to respond in the third with two runners in scoring position but were unable to bring them across.
- The Braves extended the lead with a three-run home run in the fourth.
- Burr delivered his second home run of the game with a lead-off shot in the sixth.
- UNC Pembroke broke the game open with a nine-run seventh inning and added another run in the eighth.

- The Crusaders wrap up the five-game home stand with a midweek contest against Lander.
- First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m. from Abbey Yard.
