WEST MONROE, La. -- Belmont Abbey took third place in the Omnium and
Rita Fedewa earned a silver media, highlighting the Crusader cycling team and the USA Cycling BMX Collegiate National Championship, held this weekend.
Saturday, March 21
- Rita Fedewa had a dominant day, winning every qualifying round and the main event to hold the the lead at the halfway point.
- Kaylyn Miller improved her qualifying round place in all three races. She just missed the final, falling ninth for eight spots.
- Zack Drinkard had consistent finishes until the third qualifying round, when some unlucky positioning left him in 12th place for the day
Sunday, March 22
- Miller had a solid first and third qualifying round, but missed the final, finishing the day in 13th place.
- Fedewa started the day as she had on day 1. She won all 3 of her qualifying rounds and set the fastest lap time from qualifying. In the final, she led from the start but a strong end-of-lap push from Marian's Breanna Winter saw Rita lose the race lead by 0.023 second, She finished second on Day 2.
- Zack Drinkard started the day with some strong and consistent results but a crash in his third qualifying round kept him from the final.
- The final medalists were determined by combined points from Day 1 and Day 2 -- and tiebreakers, leaving Fedewa in the silver spot on the podium.
- Miller and Drinkard had their best results at the National Championships, taking 12th and 13th place, respectively.
