HOW IT HAPPENED
- After a scoreless first inning, Belmont Abbey got on the board with a four-run second inning starting with a two-run single from Todd Velotta.
- That was followed by an RBI double from Jack Boyles and a sacrifice fly from Josh Wilson.
- Emory & Henry threatened to score in the bottom of the inning but starting pitcher Carson Dahle was able to work out of a bases-loaded jam without allowing a run.
- The Crusaders capitalized the very next inning as Whitaker and Burr hit back-to-back home runs while Boyles added an RBI single to make it 7-0.
- The Wasps got four runs back in the fifth inning but Yarbrough retired the final two batters he faced in the inning to limit the damage.
- The big inning for the Abbey came in the seventh as the Crusaders put up six runs in the frame.
- Matthew Fattore drove in two runs with a double followed by a Mason Janz RBI single.
- After two stolen bases from Janz and a walk from Whitaker, Burr capped it off with a three-run home run to center field to make it 13-4.
- The Crusaders closed the game out as MJ Doan, Collin Williams and Jacob Larkins each pitched a scoreless inning in relief.
- Belmont Abbey closed each of the final three innings turning double plays.
